2004 Hall of Fame Honoree
Jim Dyer ... Animal lover.
Jim Dyer was an institution in the Florida Parishes as the long time owner of
the Amite Livestock Company which he operated for over forty years. Hailing from Amite, Jim
loved animals and worked with them from the time he was a young boy. He was very involved with
people from all segments of the agriculture industry and was always a person that could be
counted on for advice and expert guidance. Jim was one of the first contributors to the sport
of Rodeo in Louisiana.
Jim’s associations were vast and many, with not many people able to call him a stranger.
His friendly disposition made Jim exceptional to work with and made his business thriving and successful.
“A true gentleman and dedicated friend”, were words echoed when Jim’s name was mentioned. Jim, along with Wayne Wood,
John Yates and Buddy Stevenson all assisted in forming the Tri State Rodeo Association, which is
still in existence today. Jim was the first President and served a total of three additional terms as
president through the years. Jim was also founder of the Southeast Louisiana Roping Association.
Jim Dyer, Sr. was an honorable man, a family man and a person many young people in the
agriculture and rodeo arenas looked to emulate.
