2008 Hall of Fame Honoree
Freddie Wood ... the voice of rodeo.

A third generation cowboy and rancher born and raised in Amite, LA, Freddie J. Wood developed his love for the sport of rodeo at an early age. In the early 1960’s he and his older brother, Robert “Wayne” Wood, started the
Wayne Wood Rodeo Company. This was the first stock contracting company to be used by Tri-State Rodeo Association. His distinguished 40-plus-year career as a rodeo announcer began at the young
age of 18.
His knowledge of the sport, as announcer, contractor, and competitor, allowed him to produce the first rodeo at the Tangipahoa Parish Fair, the Amite Oyster Festival, and events at his own Lightening W Ranch Arena. He has had the honor of being Master of Ceremonies for Old Farmers’ Day in Loranger for 34 years. He has also been commentator for Strawberry Television Cable Network at the Amite Oyster Parade, Tangipahoa Parish Fair, and the Greensburg Forest Festival. In 1988, Freddie became a licensed and bonded Auctioneer for the state of Louisiana. He has conducted hundreds of stock and equipment auctions since then.
Retired from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture, after 37 years of service, he continues to enjoy the sport of Rodeo. He takes pride in teaching the younger generation an appreciation for the sport. Known as “Mr. Freddie”, he has influenced the lives of many cowboys and cowgirls with his quick wit and knowledge. Always willing to lend a hand he is a lifelong cowboy, mentor and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Freddie considers himself blessed to be a part of something so dear to his heart ... The sport of rodeo!
